The Three Crowns is a family run traditional community local which is a truly independent free house, specialising in real ales, ciders and perry.
Originally built c.1700 the Three Crowns has been a pub since the early 18th Century, with a Victorian extension added c.1820. There is a main bar with a real fire plus a cider/snug bar. We have a darts team in the local league, and a fortnightly quiz night. There are music and spontaneous singing nights as well as other events, such as vinyl nights, magic nights, etc, which enhance our community pub ethos.
We regularly raise money for charity, The Alhzeimers Society, Butterfly Giving (fighting teenage cancer) & The Wilts & Berks Canal Trust being two local ones. Our biggest fund raiser, is however, Movember which is a charity helping to fight against prostate & testicular cancer. We have raised c.£4,000 over the last 3 years. We have also had two cake bake offs where money has been raised for Help for Heroes & Cancer Research. More recently, one of our barmaids, Becky, has organised a couple of charity Leg + waxing events & has raised over £500 for Combat Stress.
There is always a range of 7 ales available from light summery to dark luscious. We intend always to have two dark ales available & one over 6.0 %. In addition there is a good selection of single malts as well as, at least, 3 farmhouse ciders & a perry available in the cider bar. Our ales & ciders are sold in over-sized marked glasses, ensuring, un-like other pubs, the customer who pays for a pint is served a pint. A kegged craft cider is now available from Handmade Cider.
Food is limited to good old fashioned pub snacks, filled rolls and award winning Walter Rose Pork Pies at the weekends, occasionally Gwen's spectacular Scotch Eggs, with more substantial hot & cold snacks available at beer festivals. We also operate a BYO scheme, where you can eat your take aways in The Back Bar (cutlery & crockery are available).
Ales, ciders and perry are sensibly priced with an additional 30p per pint discount for members of CAMRA.
There are 4 ale and cider festivals a year and we hold special ale & cider evenings. Please visit our diary page for more information.
